Ritual art pop · for fans of Moondog and Meredith Monk

Regan Heckscher · solo · Louisville, Kentucky

Open to opening slots. Self-contained: Regan brings everything, sets up quickly, plays to the time slot and clears the stage fast. A good way to start a night: the room settles in and starts listening.

About

reganbogen is Regan Heckscher, a multi-instrumentalist percussionist. Alone on stage, Regan builds each piece in circles: a vibraphone figure, then marimba, synthesizer, voice and hand percussion, looped and layered until the room is inside it, like the soundtrack to a hallucination. Field recordings run underneath: birdsong and other sounds Regan gathers from daily life.

A reganbogen set works more like a ritual than a concert. It is slow, sincere and hypnotic, and it asks the audience to arrive. Regan is also a stop-motion animator, and some shows include an original film projected behind the instruments. Regan also plays in other Louisville bands and appears on other artists' records.

The name comes from Regenbogen, the German word for rainbow.

After a hard day stuck inside their own head, one listener said the set brought them back: present, engaged and intentional again.
